(Not close, thankfully.) We have packed twice. The first time we had too much artwork, and not enough room for people. Had to re-think that... Last time we packed a bare minimum. Important papers, medicines, photos of the living and the dead, a change of clothes, warm sweatshirts, extra socks, food for the animals, dog leashes, a cat cage. The birds were going to be a problem, but in the end, we didn't have to leave. So, southern California is burning again. Here we are in the most beautiful spot on earth with emergency bags, dog leashes and a cat cage waiting at the front door - just in case we get that call in the middle of the night.
